Elcimaï Environnement and Odyssée Développement are lending their expertise to the Corsican Regional Authority
PRESS RELEASE :
The Corsican Transport Authority is a partner in the “Sustainable Waste and Effluent Management in Commercial Ports” project. As part of the European GRRinPORT program, the project aims to improve marine water quality in ports by limiting the environmental impact of port activities and maritime traffic, particularly through improved waste and effluent management.
One of the program’s principles is the sharing of results and the dissemination of best practices across the entire cooperation area of the Franco-Italian INTERREG program.
ELCIMAÏ Environnement (formerly GIRUS GE, a specialist in the circular economy and ecological transition) and Odyssée Développement (a specialist in the maritime economy), both subsidiaries of the ELCIMAÏ Group, are supporting the Corsican Transport Office as part of this European GRRinPORT program.
Their teams recently submitted a report to the Corsican Transport Office presenting their recommendations for implementing best practices in waste and effluent management, based on an assessment of waste and effluent management at the ports of Bastia, Ajaccio, and Ile Rousse, as well as observations of exemplary and innovative ports.
This report, based on a literature review and field visits, presents the regulatory framework for waste and effluent management in commercial ports and their economic impact in terms of port traffic. It also details the quantities and types of waste and effluents generated by ships. It outlines the classification, volume, collection, storage, and treatment of waste and effluents at each port. Finally, it offers forward-looking recommendations covering waste management and recovery, as well as differentiated and incentive-based pricing.
As a reminder, Corsica has also chosen to entrust the ELCIMAÏ Environnement – AAC COACHING – ANTRA STRADA consortium with the development of its Territorial Waste Prevention and Management Plan and its Territorial Action Plan for the Circular Economy, as well as their environmental assessment.
