Elcimaï Environnement supplies photovoltaic shading structures to the Porte de l'Isère Urban Community
The Porte de l’Isère Urban Community aims to become an energy-positive region. With this goal in mind, it has decided to get a head start on the requirement to install solar canopies over parking lots—which will take effect in 2028—by drawing on the expertise of Elcimaï Environnement. The public parking lot located in front of its administrative headquarters in L’Isle d’Abeau will now generate electricity. In addition to powering the headquarters, the canopies will be integrated into a collective self-consumption system.

Committed to sustainable development for over a decade, the Porte de l’Isère Urban Community (CAPI) comprises 22 municipalities in the heart of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its ambition is to become an energy-positive territory, and it strives to integrate all environmental considerations into its development projects.
With the support of Elcimaï Environnement, the CAPI has chosen to transform the public parking lot in front of its administrative headquarters in L’Isle-d’Abeau, Parc Saint-Hubert, and the La Peupleraie school complex into a model site. Shade structures
equipped with 700 m² of photovoltaic panels have just been installed there. In addition to producing renewable, low-carbon energy, they will provide welcome shade in a parking lot with very little vegetation.
The teams at Elcimaï Environnement, specialists in the electrification of applications and processes, managed the entire project : from design studies to the preparation of the construction contract, including project management and the commissioning of the facilities.

“This photovoltaic installation will produce up to 155.7 MWh per year (with an installed capacity of 136 kWp).
It will cover one-third of the administrative building’s heating needs. Or even 100 % (of the building’s needs) starting in the spring, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.,” explains Christophe Chavrier of Elcimaï Environnement. This installation is also part of a collective self-consumption initiative. At certain times, production will exceed consumption, and the surplus will then be used to power the CAPI Fondbonnière swimming pool.”
“By 2028, all parking lots with more than 80 spaces will be required to be equipped with photovoltaic shading structures,” notes Christian Feurer of the CAPI’s public buildings department. “With this project, we decided to get a head start on this legal requirement by taking the time to design a coherent project that meets users’ needs and addresses our challenges.”
Delivered on June 27, the shading structures will be inaugurated by the CAPI this Wednesday, July 9, in the presence of elected officials and project partners.
