Life Cycle Analysis of Industrial and Logistics Buildings
LCA : A MUST-HAVE FOR ECO-DESIGN
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) quantifies the environmental footprint of a product, a material, or even a site across its various stages : raw material extraction, manufacturing, transportation, installation, use, and end-of-life (demolition, deconstruction, reuse, recycling).
This method is part of an eco-design approach for buildings, outdoor spaces, and utilities, taking into account environmental impacts throughout the life cycle, with a focus on managing its carbon footprint.
LCA, a New Regulatory Context
In 2021, the publication of the new 2020 environmental regulations (RE2020) will have a broader scope than RT2012. In addition to energy performance, the site’s environmental footprint and its energy management capacity are also emerging as key challenges.
The three main objectives of these regulations are :
- Prioritizing energy efficiency and the decarbonization of energy,
- To reduce the carbon footprint of building construction,
- Ensuring comfort during heat waves.
