Odyssée Développement has been commissioned to conduct a study on the creation of an interprofessional organization for the fishing industry in the Pays de la Loire region
With €108.2 million in auction sales in 2018, the seafood industry is a key economic and social pillar in the Pays de la Loire region, which ranks third in France in terms of both value and tonnage sold at fish markets.
For the first time in France, at the initiative of the Joint Association for the Development of Aquaculture and Fisheries in the Pays de la Loire (SMIDAP) and the Regional Committee for Marine Fisheries and Aquaculture in the Pays de la Loire (COREPEM), the sector is considering the creation of an interprofessional organization for the fishing industry.
An interprofessional organization is a regional tool serving its members. Under certain conditions, it could be recognized at the EU level. In the Pays de la Loire, it could be tasked with maintaining and developing cohesion within the sector, leading joint projects such as new fishing and conservation practices, addressing current issues affecting the entire sector such as Brexit, mitigating sector risks, or serving as a responsive and well-informed communication tool to provide balanced responses to sensitive related to fishing.
The consulting firm Odyssée Développement (ELCIMAÏ Group) is supporting regional discussions with professional and institutional stakeholders as part of the preliminary study for this interprofessional organization.
