Urban Cleanliness : Elciclean®, a New Tool for Conducting Audits

Urban cleanliness, which everyone expects, is a major priority for local governments, which are deeply committed to keeping public spaces clean. By deploying resources that are both substantial and diverse, many of them are implementing comprehensive “cleanliness plans.” In this context, the transfer of responsibility for cleanliness to the EPCIs (public establishments for intermunicipal cooperation) presents an opportunity to reorganize and adapt existing systems to make them more efficient.

For 20 years, Elcimaï Environnement has been supporting local governments in optimizing services and awarding cleaning contracts. This expertise has made the consulting firm a leader in the field today.

Because Elcimaï Environnement sought a tool to objectively assess the cleanliness of a space and because innovation is at the heart of its values, it turned to Elcimaï Software & Services (formerly Elcimaï Informatique), another subsidiary of the Elcimaï Group to which it belongs, to develop an application designed to conduct cleanliness audits.

Called Elciclean®, the application allows users to define the areas to be audited, choose the types of litter to be considered (cigarette butts, dog waste, graffiti, etc.), and select weighting factors. The collected data can then be exported for mapping and analysis.

While the Elciclean® app is currently used by Elcimaï Environnement teams for their audit assignments—for example, in Paris La Défense—it can also be made available to local authorities that wish to conduct their own cleanliness audits.
