Renovated by Elcimaï Environnement, the inclusive playground is officially opened
Thanks to Elcimaï Environnement, Mi-Plaine Park in Meylan (38) now features renovated sports areas, an arboretum, landscaped islands, playgrounds and picnic areas, and a tree-lined pedestrian path nearly a kilometer long. A redevelopment project carried out over six months as part of an urban project management and engineering assignment.
RENOVATION OF MI-PLAINE PARK IN MEYLAN
On June 15, elected officials from Meylan (38) invited the town’s residents to the Parc des Aiguinards to inform them of major progress in the Mi-Plaine neighborhood redevelopment project. The project’s objectives were to adapt public facilities to climate change through an exemplary rehabilitation approach, improve the use of schools and gymnasiums by promoting sustainable transportation, transform the sports field into Parc des Aiguinards, and create the conditions for a peaceful shared space where different activities and generations can coexist.
Launched last October, the park’s redevelopment was commissioned by SAGES—a partnership between the city of Meylan and the Grenoble Metropolitan Area—with a project budget of 1.2 million euros.
ELCIMAÏ ENVIRONNEMENT’S INVOLVEMENT
The urban planning and engineering management was entrusted to Elcimaï Environnement, which also has an office in Meylan, as part of a consortium with the landscape architect and lead contractor Hors Champs.
The objectives were :
- Connecting and traversing the park from east to west starting from Rue des Aiguinards,
- Reinforcing the thresholds/interfaces of the retained facilities (school complex, gymnasium, library),
- Repurpose certain outdoor spaces for the benefit of schoolchildren and park users (multi-purpose sports field, play areas, arboretum).
Elcimaï Environnement’s road and utilities infrastructure team handled the technical redesign studies, construction cost analysis, and supervision of the recently completed work. The redesigned park is being officially inaugurated today.
Rainwater management was given special attention through the implementation of alternative techniques such as swales and soakaways (soil infiltration). “Rainwater is both a valuable resource to be harnessed and a potentially devastating and harmful force in the event of extreme weather conditions,” explains Yoann Mirabel, project manager at Elcimaï Environnement.
“Our teams provide significant added value and technical expertise in this area. This allows us to offer optimal and sustainable solutions such as retention, infiltration, or reuse.”
Pathways for people with reduced mobility have been installed, as well as playgrounds designed for all ages and people with reduced mobility.
In terms of vegetation, 122 trees were planted to create a canopy dense enough to provide shade during the summer. In addition, nearly 400 shrubs, over 2,000 groundcover plants, and an equal number of perennial grasses were added. An existing hedge, previously installed by the city of Meylan, was relocated, trimmed to size, and replanted upon completion of the work.
